Scope and content

Manuscript music of Arthur Butterworth in autograph, photocopy and printed format. These follow Arthur Butterworth's own catalogue system of his work with Opus No's. Adding to this, there are 5 items which precede the catalogue. 5 items, 1939-1946 uncatalogued. 43 items catalogued by Arthur Butterworth with Opus numbers. These are not representative of Arthur Butterworth's whole work and further accruals are expected. In July 2006 a further 18 items were added to the collection (ABW/1/49-64). Although most have Opus numbers, they have been added to the end of the current ABW/1 series. This was to prevent complicating the catalogue with (a) and (b) numbers. These additional items date from 1956-2001. In November 2006 a further 29 items were added to the collection (ABW/1/65-93). Although most have Opus numbers, they have been added to the end of the ABW/1 series, for the same reasons as stated above. These additional items date from 1945-2006.
