Scope and content
This collection contains papers collected by D. H. Thomas, a student of the Manchester College of Technology, which relate to the development of electronic instruments, namely keyboard instruments. It contains a combination of original articles, photographs and cuttings, brochures and advertisements, translations of academic articles (mainly from German, some from French), transcriptions of academic articles, patents and notes on relevant patents, and other personal notes.

The collection has been split into five series: 1. Printed articles, cuttings, photographs and brochures, 2. Articles translated by D. H. Thomas, 3. Articles transcribed by D. H. Thomas, 4. Patents and patent-related notes, and 5. D. H. Thomas' personal notes. These have been split further into subseries and files where appropriate.
